From chip design software to restaurant operations
Moving from chip design tools for engineers to ordering and payment systems for restaurants meant working in a very different environment.
Yammii and SkillCAD were established by the same founder. At SkillCAD, the software serves specialized chip design workflows, turning detailed and complex requirements into practical tools. In restaurants, software becomes part of a different workplace: operators, staff, and guests interact throughout the day, as orders are taken, food is prepared, and bills are paid.
What drew us to restaurants was this more direct connection with people. Whether an operation feels straightforward, information is passed on accurately, or help is available when needed—all affect the experience of using the software. Talking with merchants helps us understand these situations in detail and see where the product helps and where it still needs adjustment.
Drawing on experience in professional software development, Yammii began with small-scale pilots in full-service restaurants, gradually refining the product through everyday use.
02
Starting with small-scale pilots
During the pilots, we stayed in direct contact with participating merchants to learn how staff used the system, which operations felt awkward, and what setup each restaurant needed.
Using a product in everyday service reveals things that are easy to miss during development. An operation may look clear in a demonstration. On a busy restaurant floor, staff need to find it quickly, read order details easily, and move smoothly from one task to the next.
When merchants ask for a feature, they often explain how their restaurant works: who takes orders, where those orders go, and what the kitchen needs to see. The same feature may be used differently in two restaurants. Understanding these details helps us decide what to adjust and where to offer choices.
After an adjustment, the product needs to be used again in real service to see whether the issue has been resolved. This cycle of feedback and revision has gradually shaped the features and workflows available today.
As we gained experience through the pilots, we began working with more types of businesses, learning about their needs and continuing to develop the setup, launch assistance, and everyday support that go with them.

Built around the way merchants work
Different people in a business use the system for different tasks. Operators manage menus, staff, and sales. Employees record orders, pass on information, and handle checkout. The system needs to support these responsibilities while keeping each person’s work clear.
We want Yammii to provide the capabilities merchants need to organize workflows around their own circumstances. For tasks repeated throughout the day, we pay attention to the steps involved, the clarity of the information, and the time staff need to become familiar with them.
These considerations also informed our choice of iPhone and iPad as the primary devices. Merchants and staff can start with familiar hardware, then decide how to configure it, who will use it, and whether to add devices as the business requires.
As we learned more about everyday operations, Yammii gradually expanded from ordering and payments into kitchen coordination, back-office tools and reports, membership, and guest communication. These tasks happen within the same business, and relevant information needs to move between them.
We want the product to fit a merchant’s existing division of responsibilities and leave room for change. As a business adds services or reorganizes its team, it can adjust how it uses the system to match.
04
Tools and the support to use them
There is usually preparation to do before a system goes into use. Merchants need to understand device compatibility, menu setup, and how staff will perform common tasks. After launch, new configuration needs and questions can arise.
Setup, training, and human support have therefore remained part of Yammii’s service. We want merchants to have someone they can speak with and turn to for help, both when preparing to launch and during everyday use.
These conversations also help us keep learning about the product. A question may be resolved with an explanation, a configuration change, or further work by the product and engineering teams. The teams need to share the details clearly and follow through.
Alongside daily operations, merchants care about guests returning and helping more people discover their business. We offer membership and guest communication tools, as well as separate marketing services such as social content, business listing optimization, and local promotion.
Software tools and services have their own purposes, scope, and fees. We want to explain these clearly so merchants can choose what fits their business and understand who will provide the help they need.
05
Helping more merchants get started
Some merchants already have an iPad. Others plan to begin with a single iPhone. Businesses differ in size, budget, and staffing, and so do the setup and assistance they need to get started.
We want our product and plans to account for these differences. Merchants can begin with the setup they need today and adjust it as their business changes.
Every Yammii plan has zero monthly software fees, so merchants do not have to trade off everyday features between software subscription tiers. We also offer plans without long-term contracts, allowing merchants to choose a starting point based on their hardware, launch arrangements, and the applicable terms.
Payment processing, hardware, and certain services have their own fees. Explaining these components clearly helps merchants understand the initial investment and plan for ongoing costs.
We want merchants of different sizes and in different places to have access to suitable software and reliable support. An issue at a small business deserves careful attention too. Setups may differ, but the care given to communication and service should be consistent.
06
Our team and support
Yammii has offices in San Jose, Miami, New York, and Chengdu. Our teams across locations contribute to the product and its services, working together to provide 24-hour human support.
We hope to gradually serve merchants in more regions while providing the launch assistance, training, and everyday support they need. As our reach grows, we want to preserve direct communication with merchants.
Learning about each business, listening to the issues merchants describe, and bringing that feedback into our product and service work are practices we want to keep building on.
Careers
Join Yammii
Yammii’s work connects software development with everyday business operations. We would like to work with people who take time to understand users, handle problems carefully, and follow through.
Product and engineering teams turn needs into useful features and workflows. Sales explains products, configurations, and fees clearly. Customer support listens patiently and helps merchants resolve issues. These responsibilities call for collaboration and attention to how the product is actually used.
If you are interested in what Yammii is building, we welcome an introduction to your experience, interests, and the work you would like to contribute.
